Gear Blowout Sale

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for participating in the compass blow out sale that went on late last night at Backpacking Light.  It was a marginal success. As promised I will be blowing out some more gear. The next group will be some first aid kits. Please use the same rules as last time. If you want to buy the item post the name of the item and SOLD.

Please NO Backpacking Light Personal Messages telling me you want to buy the item, I want to keep everything transparent and everyone in the loop. I have limited quanities so the first to post SOLD on the forum gets the item. That person has 24 hours from the time of the post to arrange payment which can be thru paypal or credit card. Just send an email to Lawson@mountainfitter.com with your address and how you want to pay. If the winner doesn’t pay for the item within 24 hours then the next person to post the item and say SOLD gets it.

I will lower the items pricing everyday until all the items are sold. Once all the items are sold a new group of products will be blown out.

Estimated Date: Sunday Night @ 9pm EST.

Items:
AMK Weekender
AMK Adventurer
AMK Trail
AMK Ultralight .7
AMK Ultralight .5
AMK Ultralight .3

Quantity: To Be Determined.

Hikers Arrested In Iran

Three young American hikers who strayed into Iran over 210 days ago are still under arrest for espionage.

Shane Bauer, Sarah Shourd and Josh Fattal have been detained in Iran since July 31, 2009, when news reports say they accidentally crossed an unmarked border during a hiking trip in the mountains of Iraqi Kurdistan. They were in a peaceful region of Iraq that is increasingly popular with Western tourists.

The three young Americans, all graduates of the University of California at Berkeley, are being held in Evin Prison in Tehran. They have not been charged with any crime and have not had any contact with their families.

Shane, Josh and Sarah care greatly about the world in which we live. They admire and respect different cultures and religions and share a love of travel that has taken them to many countries. That is why they went to Kurdistan, not because they wanted to enter Iran.

We hope the Iranian authorities understand that if Shane, Sarah and Josh were in Iranian territory there is just one reason: because they made a regrettable mistake and got lost. Please let them return home as soon as possible.

If you would like to show your support for Shane, Sarah and Josh, please join their Facebook Fan Page,  or you can follow any updates on Twitter and use the tag #ssj to spread the word.

Past, Present and Future…

Past, Present and Future….

I started Mountainfitter.com over a year ago because I felt there was a need for an online outdoor gear store that sold more gear and less clothes.  I have been working hard to build a business and a brand customers can trust.  So far so good but I also figured it would give me an opportunity to spend more days outside testing gear.   Boy was I wrong.

Before starting Mountainfitter.com I owned LKC for 5 years which was a General Construction firm that specialized in shell construction.  (concrete flatwork, masonary work and rough carpentry) so I thought everything was going to be a breeze.  I guess that had to do with all the books I read on “how to start an online business making a million dollars a year while working from your chalet in the Alps” hahah : )

Within a few weeks I found out these kind of online businesses don’t exist.  It took an entire month before the first sale, which was a Coghlan’s Soap Holder for $2.99 and $5.00 for shipping.  By week six I was starting to get worried so I offered Free Shipping on all orders.   The next sale was a few days later and it was a Nalgene Everyday OTG Water Bottle for a grand total of $8.99 (including shipping)…

With my if I built it they would come attitude failure was certain.  I wasn’t use to advertising since my previous business was all word of mouth and repeat customers.  By week seven I told myself that if nothing sold by the end of week eight I would cut my losses and call it a learning experience.  Week eight came and went without a sale but I wasn’t ready to quit.  I love challenges so instead of giving up I doubled down and worked twice as hard.   By the third month Mountainfitter was receiving two orders a week.  Mountainfitter’s sales have increased every month since and Jan 1st marked our one year anniversary.

I am working hard (80+ hours a week) to build the best gear only, online shop.  In order to do that I am working on adding a few thousand more products and trying to get the Mountainfitter name out there.   Please take a few minutes to browse the Mountainfitter.com web store and if you if you find a product your looking for please give me the opportunity to sell it to you.  I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Cheers,

Lawson
